Las Vegas Southwest

Present day Las Vegas is much more diverse than the gambling Mecca of the 1960s. Locals and vacationers alike could conceivably spend a day doing any one of several things such as gambling at any or all of dozens of casinos, play a round of golf, a game of tennis, spend the day at a water park or a lake, ride death-defying roller coasters, visit the exotic replica cities of Rome, ancient Egypt, Paris, Venice, Lake Como and Manhattan, partake in a wedding ceremony with Elvis Presley presiding, tour the famous Liberace Museum, attend a Vegas show, or have dinner at an elegant five-star restaurant. Additionally, locals can step off the Vegas Strip and explore the great outdoors; an experience most find both breathtaking and exhilarating.

One such destination is Red Rock Canyon, located approximately 15 miles outside of Downtown Las Vegas. The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers a 13-mile scenic drive, hiking, biking, rock climbing and seasonal camping. A visitor center at the base of the scenic route offers in-depth information about the area’s history, recreation, geology, wildlife and vegetation. The Conservation Area, spanning over 197,000 acres, features colorful sandstone formations, canyons, a flowing spring, and is home to a variety of wildlife, including bobcats, desert bighorn sheep and wild burros. Just down the road from Red Rock Valley is Spring Mountain Ranch State Park. Totaling 520 acres, the ranch was once a working ranch and luxury getaway for its series of famous owners such as Vera Krupp and Howard Hughes. Built in the 1860s, the ranch offers a calendar of events throughout the year with activities ranging from performances to hikes through the gorgeous Sandstone Canyon.

Back in the city, Southwest Las Vegas residents no longer have to travel to the busy and sometimes hectic Strip to find a world-class casino, resort and spa to enjoy. With the completion of the newly constructed Red Rock Casino, Resort and Spa, locals can now play a hand of Poker, savor a first-class meal or watch the sunny day pass by while lounging poolside or in the resorts 35,000 square foot Spa. The Resort features nine mouthwatering restaurants that combine to deliver around-the-world dishes with out-of-this-world service. Additionally, there are several alluring lounges with various entertainment acts, a high energy dance club and an enchanting pool backyard.

Proximity to such different recreational experiences is what makes living in the southwest part of town so unique. Gimmicky marketers sell Las Vegas as “Sin City” to the rest of the world. However, locals realize that this is just a ploy to lure tourists to the city; the number one economic driver for Las Vegas. The truth is that Las Vegas in recent decades has worked diligently to introduce many more family-themed attractions to both the Strip and its outlying communities. To this end, Las Vegas and especially the neighborhoods off the Strip are filled with family-friendly entertainment alternatives ranging from cultural venues such as museums and centers for the arts to the thrills of the great outdoors. Of course, movie nights at the local Cineplex, dinner with friends at a family-owned restaurant, or a drink at a cozy watering hole are also possible too.

Southwest Las Vegas has it all and so much more. Las Vegas continues to grow and expand outward from the Strip and as it does homes in neighborhoods such as those found in the southwest part of town will continue to appreciate in value, as will the lifestyle that this prospering area promotes.
